'Prasad' - Ayodhya Temple Dining

(Tornos’ Home Dining Experience – by appointment)

Beyond the magnificent temples, Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, offers a truly immersive cultural experience.

At Tornos, we believe that a destination’s cuisine deeply reflects its culture, society, beliefs, and people. In Ayodhya, the temple culture is central to life, and this is beautifully illustrated through its culinary traditions. Lunch is not just a meal here; it’s a celebrated event rooted in devotion.

Every afternoon in Ayodhya commences with a ‘Bhog,’ a sacred offering of a freshly cooked meal to the deity accompanied by prayers and chants. The first portion is reverently presented to the deity before the ‘Prasad,’ the blessed lunch, is distributed among the devotees, who are considered honored guests. Seated on the floor in a gesture of humility and togetherness, guests are served a wholesome vegetarian meal prepared without onion and garlic, adhering to temple traditions. This sanctified meal is served on traditional ‘Pattal’ (dried leaves) and in ‘Kullhard’ (earthen bowls), connecting you to the age-old customs of this holy city.

Tornos has thoughtfully curated this divine lunch experience for its guests at a 150-year-old temple in Ayodhya, offering a unique opportunity to share this blessed meal with the temple’s ‘Mahant’ (Priest) and his family. Following this spiritually enriching lunch, the Mahant will engage in a warm and insightful conversation with the guests. He will share fascinating, lesser-known facts about Ayodhya and offer his personal interpretation of a significant episode from the revered Ramayana. This brief discourse promises to be more than just a sermon; it’s a valuable life lesson, providing a deeper and more practical understanding of the Ramayana and its enduring relevance in our daily lives.
