Golf in Lucknow

Did you know that India was one of the first nations outside of Great Britain to embrace the game of golf? Lucknow is home to a significant part of this history, as La Martiniere Golf Club was established quite early on, even before golf became popular in Delhi.
Imagine the scene in those early days, with the Gomti River flowing cleanly, abundant with fish, birds, and even pearls. Amidst this peaceful setting, British officers played with their Brassies and Niblicks, while their wives rode along what is now Kalidas Marg. The current clubhouse wasn’t there yet; the first tee was located near what is now the Haider Canal, close to the Lohia Path road leading to Gomti Nagar. The course welcomed members of the United Services Club, a few prominent Indian elites, and local landlords.
Today, the La Martiniere Golf Club spans 70 acres and offers a challenging 9-hole, par 71 course measuring 6391 yards. You can look forward to playing across lush green fairways dotted with large, mature trees, and navigating two water hazards. Notably, the 7th hole is a remarkable par 5, stretching 584 yards from the men’s tee and considered both the best and the longest on the course.
Beyond the game itself, a visit to La Martiniere offers a chance for bird watching, with a variety of colorful species frequenting the area. It’s also a unique opportunity to witness the students of La Martiniere College, perhaps seeing the younger ones heading to school or observing the boys gather for their morning assembly – a truly charming sight.

This tour picks up guests at 0500 hrs in summers, while in winters at 0600 hrs. The total duration is 3 hours. Breakfast is on schedule as per room booking at the hotel. We recommend golfers to carry their own kit, though kits in limited numbers are available with us as well and we can offer the same at no extra cost.
