Kotwara stands as a remarkable testament to the enduring connection of certain royal families to their heritage. Raja Muzaffar Ali and Rani Meera Ali, renowned for their deep commitment to preserving the art and craft of Awadh, require no introduction. With a history tracing back to 11th century, Kotwara is one of the oldest estates in Awadh. While the estate itself is nestled in the Terai region near the Dudhwa forest, the family’s Lucknow residence, a part of the Kaiserbagh palace complex, has been their city home since the era of the Raj.

The cultural stewardship of Muzaffar Ali is evident in his period film ‘Umrao Jaan’, where he poignantly captures a disappearing culture. Similarly, Rani Meera Ali passionately works to revive traditional embroidery and has undertaken significant research to rediscover unique and nearly lost recipes from Kotwara and other royal houses across India.

Meera Ali’s dedication to culinary history is showcased in her recent book, ‘Dining with the Nawabs’. We are thrilled to offer our guests an exclusive dining experience at Kotwara House in Lucknow, featuring a specially curated pre-set menu by Muzaffar and Meera Ali. The meals are prepared in small quantities by their family cooks, exclusively for the day’s diners. When in residence, Muzaffar and Meera Ali graciously join our guests for the meal. Otherwise, they personally oversee this unique dining experience, opening their family home and entrusting their ancestral cooks to prepare a magnificent meal based on their exclusive daily menu.

The daily menu is thoughtfully curated by the family, offering a selection of either a fixed menu or pre-plated options. This royal family possesses a rich and distinguished culinary heritage to which they remain deeply committed. It is this very passion and pure tradition of culinary expertise that guests will experience through the meals served here.
