Curated Dining at Chak House

(Tornos’ Home Dining Experience – by appointment)

Kashmiri Mohalla was established during the Nawabi era when Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula relocated his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow. He brought hundreds of Kashmiri families with him, in what is believed to be the largest Kashmiri migration from Kashmir.

Over time, Kashmiris in Lucknow have developed their own unique history, traditions, and cooking styles. These have beautifully integrated with the local culture, resulting in a distinct culinary tradition known as ‘Kashmiri-Awadhi’ cuisine, which is unique to Lucknow.

The ‘Chak’ family is one such educated and cultured family that made Lucknow their permanent home. They continue to preserve their culinary heritage, faithfully practicing Kashmiri-Awadhi cuisine in their daily meals and gladly sharing their skills with appreciative guests. This exceptional cuisine is generally exclusive to a few Kashmiri households in Lucknow, with the Chak family proudly cooking and keeping alive their ancestral recipes.

An evening with the Chaks typically begins with an introduction to the family and a relaxed conversation over drinks. This is followed by a live cooking demonstration in their kitchen. Guests then enjoy a home-cooked dinner featuring dishes from the family’s treasured culinary heritage. Tornos has made exclusive arrangements with the Chak family to offer this experience at their home in Lucknow.
