'Beyond Kebab' Walk (Veg)
(Every day except Thursday at 1300 Hrs)
And you thought Lucknow is only about kebabs…
Lucknow is a city renowned for its diversity, where various religions coexist peacefully and appreciate one another’s unique cuisines. This is exemplified by the presence of heritage halwais like Netram and Madhurima, alongside iconic eateries such as Tundey Kebabi and Bismillah Biryani. This harmonious blend of cultures and traditions is referred to as ‘Ganga-Jamuni Tehzib.’
The vegetarian cuisine in Lucknow is just as rich and revered as its non-vegetarian counterparts, reflecting age-old recipes and traditions. The halwais of Lucknow have cultivated devoted fan bases over the years, with generations claiming that the quality of the food has remained unchanged over time.
On this two-hour walking tour, we will guide you to traditional eateries, with the oldest dating back to 1825. You’ll discover shops that have specialized in sun-dried lentil nuggets and accompaniments like papadums, pickles, preserves, and chutneys for generations, all of which continue to grace the dining tables of Lucknow homes. Indulge in the tangy chaat and the coolest kulfi, and conclude your experience with a paan (a betel-leaf preparation) that is nothing short of a dessert.
1st Stop: Netram’s Khasta & Kachauri (deep fried lentil stuffed bread, fried in clarified butter, served with vegetable preparations and raw-mango chutney).
2nd stop: Madhurima’s Lassi (whipped sweet rose-flavoured yogurt garnished with cream and dry-nuts).
3rd Stop: Kalika’s Paprdi Chaat (tangy assemble of crisps, potato, spices and squeeze oflemon).
5th Stop: Sweet Paan (a preparation combining betel leaf with areca nut, catechu paste, cardamom, cloves, slaked lime, rose pulp and many other condiment to flavour and freshen the breath after a hearty meal).
