Bells, Beats & Ballet
(Kathak Workshop – Watch, Appreciate & Learn)
Kathak, one of the eight classical dance form of India, is celebrated for its three prominent schools or ‘gharanas’, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras (Varanasi). Among these, the Lucknow gharana is often esteemed as the most refined. Its unique style showcases a captivating blend of intricate hand, foot, and eye movements, enhanced by profound facial expressions that vividly bring narratives to life through dance.
The stories conveyed through Kathak are diverse, ranging from the romantic tales of Lord Krishna and the depiction of Lord Shiva’s persona to the vibrant entertainment presented in the royal courts of the Mughals and the Nawabs of Awadh. It also serves as a powerful medium for expressing a devotee’s love for God within the Sufi tradition, demonstrating its versatility in visual storytelling. Notably, Kathak stands out as the most secular among India’s dance forms. It beautifully embodies the Hindu-Muslim unity, reflecting the secular ethos of Awadh, particularly Lucknow, which is deeply woven into its social heritage.
Under our experience, ‘Bells, Beats and Ballet’ – Kathak Workshop, offers you three exciting immersive options to delve into this exquisite art form.
