Ayodhya, also known as Saket, is an ancient and highly revered city in India, recognized as the birthplace of Lord Rama and the setting for the epic Ramayana. The Puranas regard Ayodhya as one of India’s seven most sacred cities, serving as the backdrop for numerous Hindu scriptures. Even today, it remains a predominantly religious city, rich with historical significance and numerous sacred temples. The Atharvaveda beautifully describes Ayodhya as a city divinely built and as prosperous as paradise. Historically, Ayodhya has been a place where several religions have flourished simultaneously. Evidence of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Islam can still be found within the city. Notably, in Jainism, five Tirthankaras, including Adinath, the first Tirthankar, were born here. Much like Lucknow, Ayodhya exemplifies the Ganga-Jamuni culture of secularism, evidenced by the Hanuman Garhi temple being constructed on land provided by the Nawab of Awadh.
Our day trip to Ayodhya will proceed as follows:
We will depart from Lucknow around 8:00 AM after breakfast for Ayodhya (approximately 150 km, a 2-hour drive, with a brief refreshment stop en route just before Ayodhya). Upon arrival, we will be warmly welcomed at the Kanak Bhawan Temple. Here, a specialist guide will provide an initial briefing before we proceed for a privileged ‘Darshan’, including access to the sanctum sanctorum. We will also attend the Aarti and receive blessings from the priest through a special arrangement.
Following this, we will visit Hanuman Garhi, the hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the guardian of Ayodhya. Thanks to special arrangements, we will have VIP entrance and a privileged darshan. Afterwards, we will drive to a temple for a specially arranged lunch with the priest and his family. We will enjoy the Prasad (lunch), and the priest will share a short sermon.
Later in the day, we will visit the Ram Janam Bhoomi Temple, followed by a brief orientation visit to the river Saryu Ghat and Ram ki Paidi. We will enjoy afternoon tea by the riverside before commencing our drive back to Lucknow.
As a supplement to our itinerary, there is an opportunity to visit the Nageshwar Nath Temple and enjoy a delightful joyride on the river Saryu. At sunset, we can witness and participate in the Saryu Aarti ceremony. This is a truly blessed experience, and today’s aarti will be dedicated to you for blessings in the sacred land of Lord Rama. Following the aarti, we will board our car and return to Lucknow, aiming to arrive by dinner time.
