Aristocratic Home Dining

Dine at Itaunja House in Lucknow

Lucknow, as the former capital of Oudh and later the United Provinces, naturally became home to representatives of various royal families within its dominion, and Itaunja was no exception. Itaunja House welcomes guests through a beautiful lobby, leading them into a space where the architecture, with its high ceilings, black and white marble, and coloured glass windows, evokes the grandeur of the family’s historical rule over the town of Itaunja.

The current Raja of Itaunja, Raja Raghavendra Pratap Singh, is not only a distinguished gentleman but also deeply committed to the restoration of his ancestral palace and estate. His design background is clearly reflected in the thoughtful use of colours and decor, preserving the essence of his home. Interestingly, during World War II, Itaunja House served as an extension of King George’s Hospital due to bed shortages, a fascinating detail among many others that Raj Sahib Itaunja enjoys sharing with guests over drinks. The culinary heritage of Itaunja offers another compelling reason to visit. The family possesses a collection of treasured recipes from which the day’s dinner is carefully selected. A typical evening at Itaunja House begins with an introduction to the family and a relaxed conversation over drinks, followed by a home-cooked dinner featuring dishes from their well-guarded culinary tradition.

We at Tornos in an  exclusive arrangement with the Itaunja family offers an  opportunity to step back in time and experience the rich history and hospitality within the intimate setting of their Lucknow home.
